Amy Sorensen

[ More Info ]

I am an ambassador for NG Nutra, WodnDone, Athletic Brewing, Mudgear and Gameday CBD. I am co-captain for IronEdge OCR Team and primarily take care of the social media for our Instagram page. I love it. I love to shine the spotlight on our team members and all their accomplishments. They are absolutely amazing humans and athletes. Finding OCR pretty much saved my life 7 years ago. I love to race, push myself, and the challenge mental and physical. I try to be a better version of my yesterday's self. I didn't start competitive racing until about halfway through 2019. While I now try to chase the podium as a competitive racer, I fully enjoy going out with new and seasoned racers for the pure love of the sport. There is nothing better than to see a new to the sport racer, tackle an obstacle/race that they thought they couldn't do. I still remember what that felt like! Everyone should get to feel that thrill of accomplishment! Every chance I get, I try to introduce people to the sport that I love. OCR gives so much back! The OCR community is the most uplifting, supportive, tight knit community I have found. Never have I been happier to be part of such a life changing wonderful community.

Brittany Lovette Hastings

[ More Info ]

My passion is fitness. I’m really into pushing myself physically and seeing what I can do. I did my first OCR race just to see if I could do it, and I got hooked. One of the best feelings is when you spend months trying to conquer an obstacle and then finally do it. I’m always trying to get people to try OCRs, and since I talk about them constantly, being an ambassador for OCR Buddy is a perfect fit. I’ve been an ambassador for Phoenix Race OCR this year. Random race fact about me: I always run my races in either a superhero shirt or some bright or colorful shirt, and back in March, I ran a Spartan in a tiara, veil, and sash (it was my bachelorette party weekend).

Brittney Joniec

Welcome to the Buddies!

Daniel Ivey

[ More Info ]

I’ve been running since 2012 where I secured a charity place for London marathon. I didn’t really know what I was doing in terms of training but I devised a plan where I would run/walk/run to start with and slowly increase the distance – I couldn’t even run to the end of the road without feeling out of breath – but as I started to increase the distance I found myself able to run to the end of the road without feeling out of breath and then I could run around the corner and along the road. The hardest thing about spring marathons is that you have to train throughout the winter – the cold, wind, rain and snow – but I found that if I can wrap up, get myself out the door and just run – once I was out and about it was easier to keep going. One thing that has really changed my running is parkrun. I started running at my local parkrun in Tonbridge in 2014, and have made so many friends, and it's so lovely to be able to run through our lovely woods and round a lake, and meet up with friends, chat, enjoy a run together. I have now run over 320 parkruns. I started initially to run road races, to see how I could get on running for hours and trying to improve my previous half or marathon time. But as time has gone by, I started to realise the enjoyment comes more from not trying to beat my previous PB – but from spending time on my feet, running along a trail that I haven’t run down before – exploring a path that goes off in a direction that looks too good not to explore. I have, on several occasions run down a path, hoping it will lead somewhere, and discovered it ends abruptly in a field – it is then that I check Maps on my phone to see where the path around the field leads and usually I can find my way back. On one occasion I followed an overgrown path, which was not very well used, and I discovered a field full of tall grass and carried on a little way until I decided to turn back and knew I would have to face the overgrown brambles again ! One of the benefits of where I live is that we are surrounded by fields and woods and rivers, and you only have to run for about ten minutes and you can be out of the traffic and built up areas and into the woods and listening to the birds chirping. I'm very lucky as I regularly see two adult Herons and their baby. Finding myself running down a tree lined path, with fields one side and an old railway line on the other, really does appeal to my senses – you have to be so much more aware of your surroundings – from tree roots, holes, stinging nettles and puddles – these all add a certain level of excitement to the run – but also means you have to be extra careful when running to ensure you don’t end up on your face ! The natural progression from my trail runs is to move onto ultra-trail races and I have now run several ultras from 30 milers to 100k, and I'm looking to increase the distance to 100 milers or more. A friend once told me something which I always try to remember when I feel like a run wasn’t very good - ‘It is not so much about speed, not so much about trying to beat your previous time, but more about time on your feet, time outdoors, and definitely quality long runs over the quantity of runs’. I get so much more enjoyment from a Sunday long run early in the morning, than say a 10k run along the streets. I have run lots of road races - some where I didn’t really feel in the mood but the challenge of trying to beat last years’ time – and earn a lovely medal was once appealing but now I have found a new challenge in the off road, trail runs. My best running experience was running my two hundredth parkrun. My family support me through giving me time to run and they know I do love to run parkrun on Saturday morning and the best thing was that on the morning of my two hundredth parkrun they all surprised me at the end by turning up with balloons - this included my 18 year old son who got out of bed early on Saturday to come and see me finish. I once ran a trail half marathon at Bedgebury. It was all off-road, through the woods, along deep ditches that tractor tyres had made and the ditches were full of water. I didn’t have trail shoes back then and wore my road shoes and almost lost one in the mud! I learned I needed trail shoes for runs in the woods and also to double knot my laces which I always do now, even for road runs. I am now focusing on ultra-trail races – this is giving me a renewed love for running, a new challenge, and a different way of challenging myself. I never thought for one moment that I would want to run more than a marathon – but the challenge of self-navigating, pushing myself further and making my wife and children proud – is the thing that keeps me going and the love of the great outdoors.

Janet Rigdon

[ More Info ]

I became involved in fitness in my 30s as a way to feel healthier both inside and out. After a friend convinced me to try my first OCR (Fit Challenge), I fell in love with the sport and all it represents and have been racing ever since. Whether completing a road race, trail race or OCR, I love both the challenge of pushing myself to be the best I can be as well as the elements of teamwork and friendship out on the course. Although there are many obstacles that still challenge me, I'm so grateful that my body allows me to do what I can do...I love playing in the mud, climbing mountains and lifting heavy sh#t...and getting to spend time on mountains and in the woods giving and receiving words of encouragement and a "hand" up whenever necessary. ... Here are some other random tidbits: fur-mom to 2 cats, a rabbit and a guinea pig .... avid gardener ... elementary school special educator

Kirin Hart

[ More Info ]

I keep starting to write a bio then decide it sounds terrible and delete it all. I find myself at the intersection of so many different things- a former elite athlete, but definitely not competitive anymore. I love OCR- the community most of all. I don't miss the actual competition of it though. I just want to go out and play; there are very few things I enjoy more than supporting everybody else in completing their events. Honestly, I prefer volunteering at events to competing these days. And they say once a ninja, always a ninja, but I'm semi-retired from that, too. I love it, but now from the periphery. I don't practice yoga like I used to. I have started doing new circus-y things now, too. I like all of them. Love them, really. I just like to do fun things with wonderful people- and the better the people, the more I want to do fun things with them.

Philip Park

[ More Info ]

Avid volunteer and #SpartanDog Dad Found a calling working to rebuild community altruism. ... “I volunteer because there is a need. I serve because the fulfillment I get from helping far exceeds any incentives I receive. Volunteering isn’t a two-way street. This is not a transaction. If I can inspire this perception on one other individual , then all the work is worth it.” ... My goal is to bring OCR to the masses and show that our community accepts all racers and individuals that want to "get busy living." It doesn't matter what you can and can't do. What matters is that you are out there... Fun Facts: I am an avid golfer. I have played almost 1100 different courses and every public course in California. I'm always up for a round wherever! Let's hit some balls in between races! I am also a critter lover. As you can see from my pics, my fosters come with me to my races and the OCR community helps me save and adopt the unadoptable. Motivational Quotes: ... "Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have." - Jim Roh ... "Those that are happiest are those who do the most for others." - Booker T. Washington

OCR has become a gateway for me to help others find their empowerment and worth through conquering obstacles in the course and in life over the past 4 years. I go by the nickname “Whittles “ because I am on the shorter side… so I’m whittle! Friendships and comradeship and overcoming obstacles are everything; every race I meet a new longtime friend generally through screaming encouragement to them and watching them wave happily that someone is in their corner, even with initial interaction. I am a part of Empowered OCR and I represent @Prevenix and @vitalapparel.
