Race Review: Emerald Coast Mud Run for Orphans

by Phillip Webb / Thursday, 07 May 2026 / Published in Blog

If you’re looking for a race that blends challenge, creativity, and heart, Trail Scout Reservation in DeFuniak Springs, Florida delivers. This event supports the Heart of the Bride Ministry and includes a 10K competitive wave, 5K competitive wave, multiple 5K open waves, and a kids’ wave.

Race Director William Shell brings the heat with tough, imaginative obstacles that use every inch of the land and water features. You’ll also see plenty of Race Ready Obstacle grips from Aaron and Dana Sabia out on course. The Scout Staff keep everything running smoothly and even fire up hamburgers and hot dogs afterward.

From parking to registration to the festival area, everything is dialed in. The volunteers are friendly, hardworking, and genuinely invested in giving racers a great day. And the best part — you’re not just running an awesome OCR, you’re supporting a great cause.
