The Daniel Barden Mudfest was held 2 May 2026 in Deansboro NY. The race is held in memory of Daniel Barden, a child who lost his life at the Sandy Hook School shooting. Proceeds from the race go to Sandy Hook Promise, a non-profit dedicated to reducing school violence.
The race options are 5M and 5K timed, 5K untimed and a kids run (5-11). Races start at 8 (5M), 8:30 (Timed) and 9-10 (untimed). The prices are reasonable w the 5M coming in just under 100 and the 5K untimed coming in just under 50.
Mud is the word w this one. There are numerous long mud pits w deep mud of varying viscosities. The obstacles are good but not overly technical. Expect good use of the terrain throughout. The large pond after the last obstacle helps slough off some of the mud.
This event is much more than a mud run. The field adjacent to the festival area is used for Highland Games! Kilt wearing athletes can be seen tossing cabers (mini phone poles) and throwing stones. The barn houses live music from 10-5! The beer tent was well stocked.
This was one of the most fun races I have participated in since the demise of Rugged Maniac. The course is good for both experienced mudders and beginners.
I would, most definitely, do this race again. If you do go be sure to bring your shower toga or changing tent as there are no changing areas (but the outside showers are heated)
