The Tuscaloosa Gauntlet is not your typical OCR. In addition to supporting the Alabama Marines Foundation it features many Military inspired obstacles and has a cool twist on the starting line. To begin the Gauntlet you jump off a mock landing craft carrying a mock M-1 Rifle and run through smoke. It also features an official Marine O- Course.
The Tuscaloosa Gauntlet is a weekend event with the Kids Races on Friday Night with a live band and food trucks. Saturday features the Competitive, Open, and Team Waves. ROTC, JROTC, Veterans, and First Responder Teams all compete with each other. In addition to the official Marine O-Course is the Air Force Wall, Army Weaver, and a 50 foot Cargo Net.
The obstacles are pretty challenging including natural obstacles like steep hills and water crossings. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and helpful. Another plus is onsite camping.
PS:
An added plus for future assistance to OCR Buddy are local OCR athletes and Board Members Russ and Susan Moore. They are long time members of the OCR Tribe, Grey Berets, and Grey Betties. They are very involved in Civic and Athletic Groups around the University of Alabama. They are big supporters of this event, volunteer, and run it also. I think they would be great Ambassadors in the future.
