Spartan returned to the Southington Offroad Park in Garrettsville Ohio for the “Cleveland” Trifecta Weekend. This venue has a reputation for being a muddy one and it did not disappoint.
The start was different in that it went immediately into twenty yards of waist deep water. The course was not one of Spartans’ better courses but it seems Mother Nature was, at least in part, the issue. A rainy pre race week saw Spartan modifying the course several times. Obstacles were cut or moved and there were long stretches with no obstacles.
When is the last time you did a Spartan race with no bucket carry?
It would also seem that a dearth of volunteers added to the courses issues. It was rumored that the lack of volunteers caused some obstacles to be dropped. Medals were not handed out by volunteers at the finish but picked up from a table.
The 2027 schedule for this race has it moving to October reportedly in an attempt to alleviate some of the course setup issues.
If you are looking for a relatively flat venue to complete a Trifecta Weekend, this is a good place to start though October might be a bit cooler.
I have done this venue before and I would do it again.
