You may have seen MANSCAPED products advertised on some of your favorite podcast platforms or on advertisement placement at major sporting events like the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). I decided to check out their Platinum Package body grooming kit to see if the advertisement lives up to the hype and if it is worth it for Obstacle Course Racing (OCR).
Why review grooming products on an OCR website? We all race for different reasons, for many it is simply getting a good photo and being fitter. If you want better photos, having less body hair brings out more definition (it is the reason bodybuilders have their body). If you are competitive having less body hair means water tends to fall off you quicker and you dry faster when transitioning between water and obstacles. Finally, sometimes it just feels better and if you feel better, you’ll tend to perform better giving you that placebo effect to increase performance.
What does it come with? The platinum package comes with a Lawn Mower (body grooming clippers), Weed Whacker (nose/ear hair trimmer), Crop Soother (groin aftershave lotion), Crop Preserver (anti-chaffing groin deodorant), Magic Mat (disposable shaving mat), Boxers and the Shed (hygiene bag).
Other Packages: This is the middle priced package of the three ultra packages, coming in at around $140, saving roughly 46% if you tried to buy each individually. This is slightly more expensive than the “Perfect” package at $120 (which doesn’t have the nose/ear hair trimmer) and slightly less expensive than the Platinum Package at $160 (which includes body wash, body scrubber and deodorant).
Individual Product Review: The packaging looks super professional making it a great gift for someone for a birthday or significant holiday. Instead of doing a deep dive, here’s a couple thoughts on each product:
Lawn Mower: Great product with multiple attachments for different lengths of hair. I’ve used other clippers before and have cut/nicked myself, but I haven’t had that problem with the Lawn Mower. The Lawn Mower is not only strong but comes with a built-in light helping you to ensure you don’t miss spots, super helpful especially in some bathrooms that don’t have the best lighting.
Weed Whacker: The nose/ear hair trimmer felt super effective at cutting through hair and is even waterproof. I have a similar product from the Sharper Image but the MANSCAPED one is next level. I have switched to the Weed Whacker for ear/nose hair trimming after using both.
Crop Soother: The groin/ball aftershave lotion is not something I would buy on its own, but I liked that it came with the full package. The smell is nice, manly, but not overpowering or too strong.
Crop Preserver: Similar to the Crop Soother the Preserver has a nice smell without being overpowering like body spray from the 1990s. Not something I would necessarily have ordered on my own but the size of the bottle and the amount used per day makes this bottle feel like it will last a very long time.
Magic Mat: Grooming can be a messy situation leaving tiny hairs everywhere. These disposable mats are just another nice touch to the whole package. It shows the level of care they put into their products and service.
Boxers: A nice bonus to add to the gift. They are super soft and comfortable but I have found that they tend to bunch up on my body type. These are a go to pair for lounging around the house or going to sleep.
Hygiene Bag: Another nice touch. Not something I would go out of my way to get but getting all these new products creates a nice and easy way of storing all the MANSCAPED products easily.
Overall: If you are going to jump into the MANSCAPED world, I would start off with one of the packages over trying to customize your own lineup of products. The nearly 50% savings you’ll get from the packages is well worth it in my opinion rather than trying to order each individual part one by one. If I had to redo my order, I probably would have gone with the Platinum package since so far I’ve loved the scents and quality of all the products I have from MANSCAPED. Adding in body wash and shampoo would have been nice considering I know I’ll use it in the long run and with how muddy we get in OCR, it would definitely be put to good use.
