I recently got a great question from someone new to the OCR scene:
“Who is in charge of what?
It can be really confusing with all these championship events. For instance, Costa Rica was different from Croatia, which is different from the Dubai event. And then there are all these local events like the ones in Mammoth and Georgia!
Here’s how it breaks down:
- Spartan: They are a private company that organizes their own championship events, like the one in Croatia.
- Costa Rica: This event was produced by World Obstacle, the global governing body for OCR.
- USAOCR: This is the National Federation in the USA, which produced the Georgia event as part of the USA OCR National Championships.
- Dubai: This event is organized by a private company in partnership with World Obstacle.
- Mammoth: Originally, this was the OCR World Championships (OCRWC), run by Adventurey. Last year, it was sold to Spartan.
Now, here’s where it gets a bit more complex:
- Spartan is a World Partner of World Obstacle, and my app, OCR Buddy, is also a partner.
- World Obstacle provided assistance with the 100m course in Croatia.
- This weekend’s event in Colorado is produced by Lost Island Warrior, but it’s being promoted as a World Obstacle 100m OCR World Series event.
I hope this clarifies the different organizations and events within the OCR community!
