It’s time again for my annual Ultra-Obstacle Course Racing (Ultra-OCR) self-created and painful charity event. In 2022, the plan is to run the height of Everest (29,029 feet) while doing obstacles at the course of Tough Mudder New England the weekend of June 4-5th in Stratton, Vermont.
While I’ve done self-created charity events every year for the last six years, this one is different for several reasons. First, I’ll be working with the charity Infinite Hero Foundation for the first time after developing a relationship with them during Tough Mudder’s Infinite Hero Honor Challenge.
Second, it is my final Ultra-OCR charity event. After six years I’ve simply run out of ideas that don’t have an extreme financial or time cost that is reasonable. I’ve done 7 days, 7 venues, 7 OCR marathons in summer, podiumed at every 24 hour OCR in the USA, 24 hour treadmill OCR, 48 hour multi-lap OCR, Ultra-OCR at 21,000 feet and 8 day, 8 venues, 8 OCR marathons in winter. Over the last six years, you have helped me raise more than $26,000+ for charity.
Third, while the sport has plenty of great mountain runners, I’m not one of them. It’s hard to say if this will be my most painful challenge yet, but that may be the case. Either way it is going to be a long 24+ hours that will be covered by filmmaker Bobby Ross (also the director the upcoming Ultra-OCR Man documentary).
You can help out by:
- Donating a couple of dollars to our donation link (every dollar helps).
- Signing up to pace me in person. $50 donation gets you a belt buckle and you get to keep me company on the course for as long as you want. (Of note, if you plan on pacing during normal Tough Mudder hours you’ll have to sign up for Tough Mudder. If you plan on pacing in the evening, we will be off the Tough Mudder course and just need to donate to the fundraiser (details here).
- Participate virtually. There’s a loosely competitive virtual option consisting of 28 obstacles and 2,903 feet of elevation gain that you can do (more details here). You get a buckle as long as you are one of the first 40 people to sign up.
Hope to see some of you out there for one last painful charity fundraiser. Don’t forget to follow my social media channels and check in at OCR Buddy for some updates on June 4th & 5th. If you want to know more about me pick up a copy of my book “Ultra-OCR Man”, explore my website and/or look for the upcoming 24 minute documentary Ultra-OCR Man (details coming soon).
